Tips and Tricks for Soothing Poorly Little Ones

It seems now the little ones are off school/nursery age they seem to be bringing home more illnesses. Especially over the winter months. Half term arrived in our house and we were looking forward to spending some time with the kids however the house was struck down by the dreaded lurge aka cold.  Luckily for us, just as it hit our household, I was invited to take part in the #VicksTricks campaign…couldn’t of come at a better time.

Here are some of the tricks we use to soothe our little ones when there ill:

We love cuddles in this house, even when the little ones aren’t sick. There’s nothing better when there poorly than snuggling up under a blanket, watching Disney films and enjoying a cuddle with them. In fact when your cuddling your little ones and you feel all warm and a lot of love for them, it actually increases hormones that help fight infection. So, basically, you’re boosting your immune system because you’re feeling too good and healthy to get sick.

We were very kindly sent this book as part of the #VicksTricks campaign. If you don’t already own it, I’d highly recommend buying ‘The Rabbit Who Wants To Fall To Sleep. Reading this book whilst the little ones have been ill, has really helped keep them relaxed and calm them enough to be able to drift off to sleep each night.

Vicks on feet

I’m not sure why this works to be honest… I’ve tried to google it and find out why, but there’s a lot of mixed bits of info. However in spite of that I still insist that rubbing Vicks Vapour rub on your/little ones feet and wearing a pair of cosy socks over the top is one of the best ways to treat a cold/cough.

When the kids are poorly, all routine tends to go out the window. We tend to let the kids sleep as and when they want and for however long they want. We’ve noticed that the more sleep they get, the better they seem to feel… this is omething I’m not alone in. Over half (52%) of parents said that rest was the most important thing for making children feel better.

If all of the above fail and the little ones still don’t seem there usual happy selves… then we try our best to make them at least laugh once each day whilst ill. Whether its reading a funny story or mummy ticker-ling them or even daddy making silly faces. It can sometimes be a challenge when there not feeling 100% however its worth trying as just that one little laugh or smile can make a whole world of difference.

If your looking for ways to entertain your little ones when there unwell or maybe just to cheer them up a bit then this video below is for you. Vicks have kindly put together four little magic trick videos over on YouTube as ideas for you to do with your little ones when there under the weather. I decided to share my favourite one in this post, which was the Jumping Coin Trick. Both my little ones love fairies, wizards and magic in general. This is guaranteed to put a smile on there face.

I love these tips. I make my own Vicks. All natural and I love it. The feet thing is a funny one but totally works.

I think some of those tips would soothe me too! We also like using a special cup or straw or cushion.

I always thought it was bad to use Vicks on children, even on their feet. Cuddles are always needed when little ones are poorly, we always spend time watching Disney films when my two are under the weather.
